About Sapphire Foods
Sapphire Foods is one of YUM’s franchisee operators in the Indian subcontinent, Sapphire also Sri Lanka’s largest international QSR chain. The company has also established a presence in the Maldives. As of June 30, 2021, the company owned and operated 209 KFC restaurants in India and the Maldives, 239 Pizza Hut restaurants in India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and two Taco Bell restaurants in Sri Lanka.
Sapphire Foods aspire to be India’s best restaurant operator by serving customers great food with great experience at great value. The company operate the restaurants in high traffic and high visibility locations in key metropolitan areas and cities across India and develop new restaurants in new cities as part of the brand and food category expansion.
The franchisee arrangement (the “Franchisee Arrangement”) with YUM allows to operate, on a non-exclusive basis, under the KFC brand in several states in India and across the Maldives, the Pizza Hut brand in several states in India and across Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and the Taco Bell brand across Sri Lanka (collectively, the “Territories”), while leveraging YUM’s system and system property. The Franchisee Arrangement also provides with a right to use YUM’s system and system property covering all aspects of business operations, as well as the flexibility to undertake, with YUM’s approval, local or regional promotions, while meeting YUM’s global quality assurance standards.
KFC was founded in Corbin, Kentucky, in the U.S. by Colonel Harland D. Sanders in 1939, the first Pizza Hut restaurant was opened in Wichita, Kansas, in the U.S. in 1958, and the first Taco Bell restaurant was opened in 1962 in Downey, California. As of December 31, 2020, YUM and its franchisees operated more than 50,000 stores worldwide
